Moscow: Gritman Medical Center / FIRST STEPS Program

FIRST STEPS is a nationally recognized child abuse prevention program offering parenting support, education and referral resources to all parents. The process includes a specially trained volunteer that visits in the hospital birthing center with the parents and provides them with an educational Expecting Baby or Welcome Baby packet filled with information, community resources, a developmental calendar, a child's book, song booklet and book of rhymes. The volunteer offers three months of follow-up information to parents via phone calls and mailings.

Coeur d'Alene: ICARE, Children and Family Advocacy Center / Love & Logic Parenting Classes

Love & Logic Parenting Classes will be offered to the rural areas of Athol, Hauser, Post Falls, Rathdrum and Spirit Lake.

Coeur d'Alene: Parents Reaching Out to Parents / Abuse and Neglect Awareness Program for High Risk Families

This project will help families of children who have disabilities (physical, mental, emotional) be aware of the many types of abuse and neglect that take place in their day to day living. Groups for family members will provide support and enhance the community resources and services that are available.

Boise: Family Advocate Program / CASA Training for Volunteer Attorneys

This project will provide a series of three training sessions for attorneys who want more knowledge about the Child Protection System (CPS) in order to recruit volunteer attorneys for the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program.

Boise: Idaho's Heart / Idaho Child Abuse Prevention Coalition Blue Ribbon Campaign

This project will fund the Blue Ribbon Campaign during April; National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The blue ribbon will be attached to a card explaining the significance of the ribbon and tips for addressing child abuse.

Boise: Neighborhood Housing Services / Homeward Bound

NHS will purchase a curriculum for parenting classes for its Homeward Bound families. Homeward Bound provides transitional housing and supportive services to homeless and at-risk families. A key component of the program is providing parents with the skills and resources they need to raise healthy children.

Boise: Jackie Matlick / Facilitator Training for the Nurturing Parenting Program

This project will provide a three day facilitator training to interested individuals who will then be prepared to deliver the Nurturing Parenting Program to consumers. The Nurturing Parenting Program is a research-based child abuse prevention parent education and family skills training.

Boise: St. Michael's Episcopal Church / Promoting Maternal Mental Health During Pregnancy: Community Collaboration & Training

This will fund a program of pre-service and in-service training for professionals and paraprofessionals who work with pregnant women, infants and families at Baby Steps and partner agencies, focusing on maternal mental health.

Twin Falls: Magic Valley Regional Medical Center / NuParent Developmental Program

This project will expand NuParent services to the Hispanic community in collaboration with South Central Head Start / PAT Programs. NuParent Developmental is a unique parent and child educational/developmental program that encourages parents to bond with their children while honoring cultural diversity.

Buhl: Donna Stalley & Kathy Waggoner / Teaching Nurturing Parenting Skills to Families

The Nurturing Parenting Program provides training on developmental expectations, empathy, behavior management and self-awareness in order to encourage appropriate behaviors. The facilitators will hold classes for high-risk families in the Buhl area.

Hailey: St. Luke's Center for Community Health / Familias Saludables (Healthy Families)

The project provides free parenting education and resources to Spanish speaking persons in the Wood River Valley through parenting classes and an annual health fair.

Twin Falls: South Central Head Start / Nurturing Fathers Program

Three sessions of the Nurturing Fathers Program will be offered to Head Start dads and the general community in order to cultivate and support male nurturance for children and reduce child abuse. One session will be for Spanish speakers, and all attendees will receive one CSI college credit in the field of Early Childhood Education.

Driggs: Aspen Center Rehabilitation and Counseling / The Parent Project

Parent Project helps parents reduce family conflict, improve school performance and attendance, identify and intervene with drug/alcohol use, intercede in negative peer associations, set more effective limits and apply appropriate consequences.

Driggs: Family Safety Network / Baby & Me for Young Moms y Madres Latinas

Baby & Me is an educational support group providing knowledge to new mothers about how to both physically and emotionally care for their babies. Sessions will be offered in both English and Spanish. Baby & Me is a prevention program that raises awareness to keep abuse and neglect from occurring for the first time in a family by focusing on age appropriate parenting.

Preston: Franklin County Medical Center / Shaken Baby Prevention Program

This project will address Shaken Baby Syndrome through early education of new and soon-to-be parents. A night class covering this information will be added to the hospital's already existing Childbirth Education classes.

Pocatello/Chubbuck: Head Start / Second Choices: Systems and Tools for Working with Children & Blended Families

This is a two day symposium with the objective of making area agencies and parents aware of the unique needs of stepfamilies, as well as the enormous number of families in the area with these needs. They will learn which families are at higher risk for domestic violence, child abuse and neglect. The value of father involvement will also be stressed. Attendees will be given information to assist in serving this population, as well as resources for additional training.

Moscow: Families Together for People with Disabilities / Native American Parent Education Project

This project will develop and implement a Parent Education program for Native American parents who have a young child with a disability or behavior disorder to provide parents training on behavior management and parenting the challenging child. The education program will be developed in conjunction with the Nez Perce Tribe so that all services will be culturally appropriate.

Idaho Falls: Help Inc., Child Abuse Prevention Center / El Valor de los Padres (The Value of Parents)

This project is an innovative program combining teaching Spanish speaking parents English as a Second Language (ESL) with parenting support and information to prevent child abuse and neglect. The designed curriculum is meant for school districts to implement as a statewide model.

McCall: Shepherd's Home, Inc. / Parenting Partners ~ Building Stronger Families with Respite, Education and Support

This is a three year, three part program that will prevent child abuse and neglect by providing a network of support for struggling parents. Part one provides parents with access to no-cost, high-quality respite care for the children; part two provides parenting tools and skills for parents through education, and part three provides rural parents with an ongoing source of support through newsletters, a resource library, and the formation of local parenting support groups.

Coeur d'Alene: Panhandle Health District 1 / High Risk Infant Toddler Home Visiting Program

This essential child abuse and neglect prevention program will serve families in the five northern rural counties of Idaho. Experienced Public Health Nurses provide home visits to families of infants and toddlers identified as medically fragile, developmentally delayed, at-risk for abuse or neglect, or who were born prematurely. The home visits provide parents with education, information and resources to help build healthy families.

Moscow: Young Children and Family Programs of the Palouse (YCFP) / High Risk Parent Education

High Risk Parent Education is an intensive home visiting service for families with children prenatal through age 13 most at-risk for abuse and neglect. Services will be enhanced by consultation with a local psychologist and a simple library of parenting videos.
